- Where does the name LuvCherie come from?
LuvCherie has been my internet name since about 1994, when I decided I needed a better AOL name than JazzyB475. (I was 13 and trying to be cool. It didn’t work.) LuvCherie is a hybrid of “love” and my middle name Cherie and is pronounced the same way. It is 99% likely that if you see someone named LuvCherie anywhere on the internet that it is me.
- How did LuvCherie Jewelry get started?
During the Thanksgiving of 2009, my mother-in-law (more accurately called my second mom) let me rummage through her bead stash, took me to my first bead stores, and showed me how to make a loop on a beaded headpin and a beaded bracelet on wire. Before the weekend was over, I was hooked. After I got home, I realized that I would have a pile of jewelry just sitting around with no purpose because I would be making jewelry just for the love of making it. I had recently been introduced to Etsy and decided to try opening a store for my extra pieces. A couple months later I sold a custom commissioned piece to a local friend and started researching how I was supposed to pay the sales tax. I discovered that to legally sell my jewelry, and to pay sales tax, I needed state and city business licenses. Something shifted inside me when my business became official and I officially became a business owner. I wanted to turn my Etsy store into a real business, and I wanted to learn all I could about running it. In a matter of months I had found two new passions, making jewelry and running my own business. As much as I wanted to make my jewelry business more than just a hobby, it wasn’t until I left my job in 2011 that I was able to make it happen. It was a hard decision to leave a paying job as a Web Designer, but I am glad I did.
